Design Your Own Garden
Ten Week Course
Ten inspiring study weeks with one day in class each week, including a short half-term break. Between classes, you'll complete practical design work at home, and we recommend allowing at least one day per week for these exercises. The practical work is optional, but it's an important part of the course and is essential if you want to create a professional standard design for your own garden. Students who complete the practical exercises will receive a certificate of completion.

Suitable For Beginners
No previous design experience, drawing ability or plant knowledge is required. Whether you're redesigning your own garden for the first time or already have years of gardening experience, we'll guide you through every stage of the design process.
You'll learn the same creative design process, ways of thinking and practical techniques that Caroline uses when designing gardens for her own clients. Rather than designing your garden for you, Caroline will guide and support you as you develop your own ideas and create a design that's tailored to your own space.
Everything can be completed by hand using traditional paper-based design techniques. If you'd like to explore digital tools, you'll also have the option of creating professional-looking plans and digital mood boards using easy-to-learn desktop publishing software. Using a computer is entirely optional, and only basic computer skills are required.
Designed for home gardeners and enthusiastic amateurs, this course offers a unique opportunity to learn authentic professional design techniques under Caroline's expert guidance while creating a design for your own garden.
What You'll Learn
Over ten inspiring weeks, you'll work through the complete garden design process, from surveying your garden and developing creative ideas to producing a detailed master layout plan, planting plan and visual presentation for your own garden.
One day each week is spent in class, followed by practical design work at home. We recommend allowing at least one day per week for these exercises. The practical work isn't compulsory, but it's the best way to make steady progress, develop a professional standard design for your own garden and receive a certificate of completion.

✔ Site appraisal and basic surveying
✔ The creative design process
✔ Design sketchbooks and research
✔ Mood boards
✔ Master layout plans
✔ Planting plans

Feedback From Caroline
Between each class, you'll complete practical design exercises at home, gradually developing a design for your own garden. We recommend allowing at least one day per week for these exercises.
Each week, Caroline will provide personalised feedback on your work during the class, helping you refine your ideas, overcome design challenges and build confidence as your project progresses. You'll also benefit from seeing your fellow students' work, sharing ideas and learning alongside like-minded people in a supportive, small-group environment.
If life gets in the way, don't worry. You're welcome to bring unfinished work to the following class, and the final session includes a dedicated catch-up and troubleshooting clinic, giving you the opportunity to revisit topics, ask questions and receive feedback on any outstanding work.
Students who complete the core practical exercises will finish the course with a professional standard design for their own garden and receive a certificate of completion. Caroline is looking forward to helping you bring your ideas – and your garden – to life.
